If any students has failed both the 1st and 2nd Quarters, they MUST score at least a C for both the 3rd and 4th quarters to receive credit for this course. Remember this is a required course for high school graduation!
Students reviewed the properties of matrices, and practiced solving systems of equations manually and using the graphing calculator.

PLEASE be in the PHS uniform!!! and have your ID on a lanyard, and evident in front of you. Our classroom is warmer now, but if you'd like to wear a sweater in class, make sure it is uniform compliant. Bring your textbook, your loose-leaf binder and 2 sharpened pencils to class every day!

Period 3
Mathematical Studies International Baccalaureate Diploma Program
Objective: Students will find gradient, and length and midpoint of line segments.
There was a brief discussion of a couple of homework questions. After the break, student conducted their seconf round of reviewing the last year's class papers.

Next quiz - tomorrow on the large IA handout from the IB office. Why were points taken away from a few papers? What are the strong points noted in the sample papers?

Next IA due date: Peer Reviews will be on Tuesday, Feb.2 - make sure you have a current set of 2 copies to bring in on that day. You should have enough time to make any changes given your additional understanding from reading the previous classes papers. Let's produce an excellent set of papers! Remember - next year - the IB class of 2012 will see yours!!

I will read your next draft after you have incorporated (or not) comments from your peers. Make sure you show me the peer comments, and have a clean draft for me to read and discuss with you.
The Feb. 12 due date for the Final Draft will have to slip to Tuesday, Feb.16 due to school being closed on Friday the 12th and Monday the 15th.

Today Mrs. Dennard distributed the grading criteria for the Internal Assessment(IA) papers, and reviwed the requirements to achieve full points with the class. The students were given a paper submitted by the 2008 class for review and discussion.

Students were given a firm warning about not showing up for class the day a paper is due. WE SIMPLY DO NOT HAVE THE TIME FOR ANY STUDENT TO BE LATE WITH A DRAFT, AS IT DELAYS THE WHOLE CLASS FROM BEGINNING THE PEER REVIEW PROCESS.
Your paper will receive a 5 point penalty per day if not received by me - either in class or online- by the due date! Also please make 2 copies for class use.

Homework: Intro section for Unit 5 on Geometry and Trigonometry in Oxford text pp 530 - 535 Ex. 5.1.
