B Day, 2/25/11

Periods B1 and B2 Honors Geometry grade 9
Objective: Students will prove triangles congruent using congruency postulates and CPCTC in order to solve real-world problems. Following the warm up, Mrs.Dennard answered questions about the homework. Mrs. Dennard taught the new lesson and assigned the practice problems. Papers (corrected) were distributed to students today. Students turned in weekly take home quiz #3-5, and worksheet 4-5.
** NOTE:If you haven't finished this you must turn it in next class or take a zero.

Assignment:Text pp. 213-216,#1-18.
Homework: pp. 213-216,#20,22,24-26,33-36,40.

Period 3 Math Studies IB grade 11
Objective: Students will conduct a peer review and discussion on their IA papers.
Students were assigned a reading and outline assignment on the IA paper for warm up today that may be turned in on Monday 2/28. Students worked quietly today on the outline and the peer review. Mrs.Dennard answered questions regarding the IAs, Students also received a brief practice assignment on quadratic equations.
Outline: Oxford text pp.406-411.
Assignment: H&H Chapter 8,section C,Ex.8C.1, and 8C.2 do only the third column in each exercise.
******FINAL Internal Assessment papers are due to Mrs. Dennard on Monday, 2/28/11.***
The Topic 2 TEST on Number and Algebra will be on Wednesday, 3/2/11.

A Day 2/24/11

Period 1A Geometry grades 10-12
Objective: Students will practice proving triangles congruent in order to use CPCTC to prove other parts of the triangles are congruent. Following the warm ups, Mrs. Dennard taught the lesson on using CPCTC, and demonstrated several examples for the class,students were assigned practice problems. As students worked on these independently, all papers collected before last Friday were returned, and grade sheets for the interim grade report were distributed to students to check.
Warm Up: Tuesday: Text pp 204,#2,&9; p, 208,#28&30.
Thursday: Text p.210 Check the Skill You'll Need #1-5.
Classwork practice: pp.204-205,#1-14.
Homework: pp.206-207,#15-20,22-24.
Weekly Quiz #3-5 is due on Monday.\

Period 4A Honors Geometry grade p
Objective: Students will use and apply properties of isosceles and equilateral triangles in order to find the angles of a garden path. Following the warm ups,Mrs.Dennard taught the new lesson, and demonstrated several practice problems. Grade sheets were distributed and papers returned to students. Students were assigned problems #1-18 on pp.213-214 for classwork.

Period 3 Math Studies IB grade 11
Objective: Students will practice simple and compound interest problems in order to understand the different types of IB problems that will asssess understanding. Students completed interviews with Mrs.Dennard for the Internal Assessment papers. The last day of peer review is tomorrow, and the FINAL paper is due on Monday 2/28/11for grading. Posters on the projects are due on Monday Mar 7.
Assignment: H&H tex, pp.435,Ex 13C.4,#1-4.

Periods B1 and B2 Honors Geometry grade 9
Objective: Students will use and apply properties of isoceles triangles in order to find the angles of a garden path. Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard taught the new lesson, worked through all evamples questions with the class, and assigned the practice problems.
Warm Up: Text pp.204-205,#2,9, p.208 #28&30.
Assignment:PP. 213-214, #1-18.
Homework: Worksheet Practice 4.5 and Weekly take home quiz.
Grade sheets were distributed to students in B2.
There will be a brief quiz on Lesson 4-5 next class.

Period 3 Math Studies IB grade 11
Objective: Students will review and practice simple and compound interest problems in order to solve real-world problems. Following the warm up questions for both Tuesday and Wednesday, students turned in any late work from last week. Mrs, Dennard distributed grade reports and all papers turnedin b Friday 2/18.11.

Periods 1B and 2B Honors Geometry, grade 9
Objective: Students will use the triangle congruence postulates,theorem and CPCTC to prove that parts of two triangles are congruent. Following the warm up, Mrs.Dennard answered questions on the homework, and assigned the practice problems. Period 2B had a brief quiz on Lesson 4-4.
Warm Up: Text p. 216 Mixed Review #50,51,52,53.
Assignment:Text pp 205-207,#1-14,and 15-20,22,23,24.

This is a half day schedule, so no Math Studies third period was held today.
IB students - PLEASE work on you IA math papers!

Periods 1A Geometry grade 10-12, and 4A Honors Geometry grade 9
Objective:Students will use triangle congruence and CPCTC to prove that two parts of a triangle are congruent. Following the warm up, Mrs.Dennard answered questions about the homework, and distributed the 4-1 through 4-3 quiz in Period 1A. Period 4A will have this quiz on Tuesday.
Assignment: Text pp.206-207, #1-14,15-21,22,23,24.
The weekly quiz was collected with worksheet 4-4.
Any work not completed in class is to be finished for homework.

Period 3 Math Studies IB grade 11
Objective: Students will solve quadratic equations in order to solve real-world problems. Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard answered questions about the homework, and met with several students regarding their IA papers. Students worked in small groups on the practice problems, which are a review of Algebra 1 objectives.
Warm Up: Text Oxford p. 113,#2.
Assignment: Oxford pp. 103-110. Read examples and do Ex.2.7 #1-8.
Any work not completed in class must be completed for homework.
The weekly take-home quiz in due today.
There is no class on Friday as it is a half day and no school on Monday as it is a holiday - so you all have PLENTY of time to work on the IA papers due on Friday, 2/25/11.

Objective:Students will use triangle congruence postulates and CPCTC in order to prove that parts of two triangles are congruent. Following the warm up,Mrs.Dennard reviewed the previous lesson and answered questions on the homework. A quiz was distributed on Lessons 4-1 through 4-3. Following the quiz, students were assigned the Check for Understanding question on pp.203 and 204. Mrs. Dennard taught the lesson on CPCTC and assigned practice problems for homework.

Assignment: Text pp.204 -205,#1-1-14.

Period 3 Math Studies IB grade 11
Objective: Students will solve compound interest problems in order to calculate the balance in a compounded account. Following the warm up, Mrs.Dennard discussed the homework problems, and the compound interest problems. Mrs. Dennard met with several students about the final drafts of their IA papers. Students worked in small groups to complete the assignment.
Warm Up: Oxford text, p.113,#1.
Assignment: Text H&H pp. 430-432,Ex. 13C.1 and 13C.2.

A Day, 2/15/11

Periods 1A Geometry grades 10-12, and 4A Honors geometry grade 9
Objective: Students will prove two triangles congruent using the ASA Postulate and the AAS Theorem in order to prove that two sides of a lacrosse goal are congruent triangles. Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard taught the lesson on ASA and AAS, and assigned the practice problems. Students worked in small groups to discuss problems as they worked, and Mrs. Dennard visited each group, observing their work and answerering questions. A change to the warm up grading was explained to each class: warm ups will come form the text, and be counted as classwork. There will be a weekly take-home quiz for 10 points and a homework assignment worksheet handout each week - distributed on the first day of the week, and collected on the last.
Warm Up: Text p. 200 # 42-45.
Classwork:Text pp.197-200;#1-21,23,24,27,28,29. A Bonus of 2 pts. was announced for completion on all problems and the challenge problems on p.200 #36-41 to be done in class.
Homework:P Checkpoint quiz p. 201 #1-10.

Period 3 Math Studies IB
Objective: Students will solve problems solving simple interest in order to calculate payments on a loan. Following the warm up, Mrs.Dennard explained the simple interest problems, and assigned the practice problems. Mrs.Dennard met with several students today to discuss their IA Papers. Final paper is due 2/25/11.
Warm Up: H&H text, p.419 Review SetB #8,and Review SetC #4&5.
Assignment: H&H text, pp.427-430, Ex. 13B1 and 13B2.

B Day 2/14/11 Happy Valentine's Day

Periods 1B and 2B Honors Geometry, grade 9
Objective: Students will prove two triangles congruent using the ASA Postulate and the AAS Theorem., in order to prove that two sides of a lacrosse goal are congruent triangles. Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard answered questions about the homework, and assigned group practice for today.

Period 3 Math Studies IB grade 11
Objective: Students will solve problems involving simple interest in order to calculate repayment on a loan. As many students were in the library finishing their IA final drafts, Mrs.Dennard took the rest of the students with her to work with the students in the library. Mrs. Dennard reviewed data sets used for the correlation testing, and asked questions to students about their drafts. This activity comprised the entire class period, so no assignment was carried out. Class will resume tomorrow with simple interest calculations.

Period 1A Geometry grade 10-12 and Period 4A Honors Geometry grade 9
Objective: Students will prove triangles congruent using the ASA Postulate and the AAS Theorem in order to prove that two triangles are congruent. Following the warm up, Mrs.Dennard answered questions about the homework, and directed the students to the classwork assignment. Students worked in small groups to complete the assignment. Quizzes taken recently were returned to students. Error Analyses on these quizzes(Lessson 4-2)is Tuesday, 2/13/11 (the next class). Students turned the homework due today,pp.194-201, #1-18.
Classwork Period 1A: pp.197-198 #21,21,27,29.
Period 4A: pp 197-199 # 19-21,27,28,29,32.
Homework: (Both classes) pp.200 Checkpoint Quiz #1-10.
There will be a quiz on lesson 4-1 through 4-3 next class.

Period 3 Math Studies IB grade 11
Objective:Students will solve number and Algebra problems in order to gain mastery of all IB procedures in solving these problems. Following the warm up, Mrs.Dennard answered questions about the homework, and assigned the classwork. The quiz taken last Friday was returned to students (Quiz 3-2) The error analyses on this quiz is due Wednesday, 2/14/11.

2/7/11 A Day

Periods 1A Geometry grades 10-12 and 4A Honors Geometry grade 9
Objective: Students will solve congruency problems using SSS and SAS Postulates. Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard answrered questions about the homework before teaching the new lesson (4-2) in the Side Side Side, and Side Angle Side Postulates used to prove the congruency of two triangles.
Classwork Period 1A: Text pp 186-192, C.U.Questions,#1-3, and # 1-21. Any work not completed in class must be completed for homework.
Classwork Period 4A: Text pp 186-192, C.U. #1-3, and #1-21,
also 22,23,27,28,33,34,36,41.Any work not completed in class must be completed for homework.
THERE WILL BE A BRIEF QUIZ ON LESSON 4-2 AT THE BEGINNING OF THE NEXT CLASS.


Period 3 Math Studies grade 11
Objective: Students will conduct a peer review session on each other's papers in order to develop excellent papers. Following the warm up, Mrs Dennard was dissapointed to learn that only 75% of the class had turned in the 3 copies of the 2nd drafts. Papers are expected to be 95% complete at this point! All 3 copies must be turned in tomorrow!
Assignment: Read the evaluation criteria for grading the Internal Assessment papers. Write a defense of what you think you score should be based on what you have written so far, and how your current draft stacks up within the criteria. Bring the evaluation criteria with you to class tomorrow - you will use this to grade/comment on the papers of your peers.
Also, please turn in Investigation pp 418-419 in H&H text.

Periods 1B and 2B Honors Geometry grade 9
Objective: Students will recognize congruent figures and their corresponding parts and prove two triangles congruent. Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard answered questions about the homework. Students received any last papers graded in the 2nd quarter, and cleaned out their 2nd quarter work from their folders. Students worked in small groups to complete the classwork assignment. Mrs. Dennard answered questions as she observed each group working. A brief quiz was given on Lesson 4-1 on congruent figures.
Assignment: Text pp.183-184,#28,30,31,32,35,38,44,46.
Homework:Complete the check for understanding questions in Lesson 4-2 pp.186-188.


Period 3 Math Studies IB, grade 11
Objective: Students will demonstrate skill and understanding of arithmetic and geometric sequences and series; and compound interest. Following the warm up, Mrs.Dennard answered questions about the homework. Students then took a 4-problem quiz on the concepts taught this week. This took the rest of the class period.
Homework: 3 copies of your 2nd draft are due on Monday for peer review.

Objective: Students will recognize congruent figures and their corresponding parts and prove two triangles congruent using SSS and SAS Postulates. Following the warm up, Mrs.Dennard answered questions abou the homework. Students worked in small groups on the practice assignment.There was a brief quiz on Lesson 4-1, on congruent polygons.
Classwork: Text pp 183-184,#24,26,28,30,31,33,35,38,39,40,44. THIS MUST BE COMPLETED FOR HOMEWORK IF NOT FINISHED IN CLASS.
Homework for Period 4A: Text pp. 186-192,Check for Understanding #1,2,3; and #1-21.

Period 3 Mathematical Studies IB grade 11
Objective:Students will solve geometric series and their application in order to solve compound interest problems. Following the warm up,students worked in small group to complete the classwork.
Assignment: H&H text pp. 408-410 Compound Interest Ex. 12E pp.409-410. This is due tomorrow, so if you didn't finish it in class, you must complete the assignment for homework.
Homework: Due Monday: Investigation on pp 417-418. 2nd draft of IA - 3 copies for peer reviews next week.
