Objective: Students will solve compound inequalities and absolute value in word problems.

Period 3 Math Studies IB Diploma Program
Objective: Studentswill solve financial math problems for: finding present value; finding the time period; annual rate and repayment tables.
Assignment: Text H&H Chapter 13 Financial Math Exercises: 13C.5,#1-5, 13C.6,#1-4,13C.7,#1-4, 13C.8,##1-3,13C.9,#1-6,and 13C.10, #1-3.
Spreing Break Practice packs were distributed on Wednesday - these are due on Tuesday, April 6.

Periods 1 and 2 Honors Geometry grade 9
Objective: Students will solve problems using the properties of kites and trapezoids. Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard taught how to the theorems of kites and trapezoids, and students practiced exercisecs on this topic.
Assignment: Text pp 320-323 #1-19.
Homework over Spring break is to complete the Chapter 6 Review on pp 339-341, #1-39.
There will a Chapter test (#6) when we return from break.

Objective: Students will solve problems using simple and compound interest
Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard led the class in a brief review of simple and compound interest formulas. Students practiced the exercises in the H&H text,
Assignment: p.430, 13AB.2, #1-5.
Homework: H&H Text, pp.433-435,13C.3 #1-5, and 13C.4, #1-4.
A Spring Break packet of previous exam questions was distributed to students today. This is due when classes resume in April.

Periods 1 and 2 Accelerated Algebra 1 grade 9
Objective: Students will write,solve and graph compound inequalities.
Following the warm up, students were assigned some practice problems before taking a quiz on Chapter 3-3 through 3-5. Assignment: Text pp 164-165,#34-43,51-53.
Homework: Back of the Warm Up Sheet, Practice 3-5, even numbers only.
This Thursday is the last day of the third quarter.
There is only one more section in Chapter 3 before we prepare for the Unit 4 test.
Students will be assigned to complete the Chapter review over the spring break. The unit 4 test will be during the first week we come back to school.

Period 3 Math Studies, IB Diploma Program grade 11
Objective: Students will practice solving foreign exchange and exponential equations. During the warm up. we discovered that many students were having difficulty with using the financial application on the calculator to solve interest, time period, and loan repayment problems. please go to p.50 in the Oxford text for detailed insructions on using this application.
Assignment/homework: Text H&H, pp425, Ex. 13A3,#1-4 and 13B1,#1-9.
The plans for the quiz this week have been cancelled. There will be a quiz on this unit the first week we return from spring break!

Periods 1 ands 2 Honors Geometry grade 9

Objective: Students will demonstrate skills in using the properties of parallelograms; verify and use properties of trapezoids and kites. A brief quiz followed a practice session after the warm up. Assignment classwork: Text pp 317, #28-50,54,57-60.
Homework: Back of this weeks' warm up sheet "The Big Quadrilateral Puzzle"
Hint--fill in all the known (given) measurements before calculating the unknowns.

Period 3 Math Studies IB Diploma Program Grade 11
Objective: Students will solve problems of international currency exchange, simple interest, compound interest and repayment in order to solve real-world problems.
Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard answered questions about the homework due today. Error analyses were collected for the most recent quiz and Topic 5 test.
The Internal Assessment Research Paper scores were given to students. This goes into schoolmax as an assessment grade of up to 100 points. It goes to the IB headquarters as up to 7 points total.
Assignment: Oxford Exercices 8.4 PP 396-402.

Objective: Students will solve problems using compound inequalities in order to solve real world problems.
Following the warm up, students completed Part 3 of the Algebra HSA Pre-test.Then, Mrs. Dennard taught the compound inequalities lesson, and students began work on the assignment.

Objective: Students will solve problems using currency conversion in order to prepare for the IB Math Studies exams on May 6.

Objective: Students will solve problems using the properties of diagonals of rhombusus and rectangles in order to solve real-world problems.
Following the warm up, students took notes as Mrs. Dennard taught several theorems about diagonals of sevaral types of parallelograms.
Assignment pp.315-316, #1-21.
Homework: Complete classwork.

Objective: Students will conduct a peer review of the Topic 5 test in order to learn these objectives more fully. This took all of our class today. Error Analyses are due on Monday.

Well - HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY

Periods 1 and 2 Accelerated Algebra 1
Students took a pre-test for the Algebra HSA.

Period 3 IB Math Studies IB Diploma Program grade 11
Objective: Students will solve exponential rate problems in order to calculate the number of descendants of Irish immigrants in the U.S.A. Then they attepted to calculate how many of people from their ancestral land related to them would be her in 100 years.
Following the warm up, students worked on a handout on exponential equations. After lunch, the class met in room A-238 for a cultural exchange which included brief refreshments,a classic Irish song (Kevin Barry and all verses of When Irish Eyes are Smiling)) and Step dancing demonstration by Mrs. Dennard. (nee'Fitzpatrick) We were joined by Mrs. Terry (IB Coordinator)and Ms.Yisenko (aother math teacher).
Homework: Complete both sides of the handout.

This took a full 90 minutes.

Objective: Students will demonstrate skills in solving problems with parallelograms in Quiz 3-4. Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard went over all homework and the Chapter 5 test was returned to students. If you are doing an Error Analysis, it is due on Tuesday 3/16/10. Make sure you explain how/why you got the answer wrong, and write out each step to find the correct answer.

Objective: Students will evaluate and score their own IA paper. Following the warm up, students completed evaluating their own papers. After lunch Mrs. Dennard did a brief review of a cfew geometry topics for the SAT tomorrow morning. GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU!

Periods 1 and 2 Accelerated Algebra 1
Objective: Students will solve multi-step inequalities with variables on one and two sides. Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard returned the work done by students on Tuesday (Practice 3-4) so that students could complete the page. Stdents practiced a few more problems in the text as well.
Assignment: Complete Practice 3-4 and in the Text p. 156-157,#40-46.
Homework: Text p. 704, #2,5,8,11,14,17,20,23,25,26.
Any classwork not completed in class today was permitted yo be done at home, but must be turned in at the next class on Monday.

Objective: Students will use relationships among sides and angles of parallelograms in order to solve real world problems. Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard answered questions about the homework, and students practiced problems on p 298.
Assignment: PP 298,#24-33 & 37.
Homework: Back of Warm Up Worksheet 6-2.
There will be a brief quiz on CH 6-1 and 6-2 on Quadrilaterals on Friday.

Objective: Students will continue to work out the problems on the May 08 IB Paper 1Following the warm up. Students worked on the exam for 2 years ago.
Assignment: Complete the May 08 Paper 1!

Objective: Students will solve problems involving parallelograms in order to solve real-world problems. Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard answered questions about homework due today and students practiced solving problems of special quardilaterals.

Period 3 IB Math Studies Grade 11
Objective: Students will Geometry and trigonometry problems to prepare for a quiz next class.Following the warm up students worked on the Take home quiz on Geometry, and were reminded that practicing the exercises in H&H Chapter 10 is important to be able to do well on the exam. Students began a process to grade their ouwn IA paper. This will continue on Wednesday, please have your grading criteria with you on Wednesday.
Tomorrow, IB students will get some practice with a real test. The IB May 2008 paper. Please bring your own calculator to class on Tuesday for this.
Assignment: Review sets A,B an C in Ch 10 H&H. (If not already done last week.) Make sure you know how to do all but the the wind bearing problems.
Please make sure you have given me two copies of your IA.

Following the warm up, students worked on some practice problems before a brief quiz. Mrs. Dennard went over all practice problems and homework problems with the class, A brief quiz was distributed. Check Schoolmax for your scores and updated average!

Following the warm up, students turned in their Internal Assessment Papers. Two copies were due FINAL today. And I'm happy to say all students managed to get it to me today! Great job!

Objective: Students will learn to define and classify quadrilaterals in order to solve problems in calculating area of special quadrilaterals.
Following the warm up, students worked in pairs on the classwork:
Assignment: Text pp 288-294, #1-24. Any part of the assignment not completed in class can be done for homework.

Period 3 IB Math Studies grade 11
Objective: Students will practice solving word problems using trigonometry and geometry.
Two warm ups were completed today - Wednesday's and todays. Following the warm up, students worked in pairs on the classwork, and Mrs. Dennard finished interviewing all students about their IA Papers. Students were reminded to include the context for their interpretation- ie - what do your math testing results mean in the context of your paper?
Assignment: Text H&H Review Set C Chapter 10 pp 352-353 #1 -13.
Homework: FINAL deadline for completed IA Paper is tomorrow!

Objective: Students will work on their IA projects during class time. About two thirds of our class was on a field trip through the English Department, so we worked on papers: Mrs. Dennard continued interviewing students about their papers.

Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard took questions about the Chapter Review and Chapter test on p 284 in the text (HW) before distributing the Chapter 5 test.

Objective: Students will demonstrate skills in solving IB Geometry problems in Quiz 3-2. Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard took questions on the homework, and dis cussed progress in the IA projects. After lunch, students took the Quiz, but did not have enough time to finish it.

Periods 1 and 2 Accelerated Algebra 1 grade 9
Objective: Students will use multiplication and division to solve inequalities in order to find out how much food can be purchased for a food bank.
Following the warm up, students took notes on instruction, and Mrs. Dennard led the class in guided practice. Then students were assignened independent practice. Mrs. Dennard gave each student their progress report of assignments received as of the previous Friday, and discussed the report with each individual student. All papers turned in by Friday 2/26 were graded and returned to students.
Assignment:p.149, # 1,5,9,13.
Homework,p. 149-150, # 31-39, 41,56,59,63,67,75.
There will be a brief quiz on Wednesday.

Period 3 IB Math Studies grade 11
Objective: Students will solve problems using area in order to solve real-worls problems.
Following the warm up, all papers received by Friday 2/26 were returned to students. Progress reports listeing all assignment to date in Q3 were distributed to students, and Mrs.Dennard discussed progress with each students individually.
Assignment: Text H&H, p 370-371, 11D, #1-12, and 11E.1, #1-4.
