Following the warm up, students received instruction for today's classwork assignment: Text H&H Chapter 5 Review Sets A,B,and C, multiples of 3. Students well allowed to complete yesterdays' assignment of Chap.5,Ex5I.1,#1-7.
Homework: All practice assignments are done in class at this time so that Mrs.Dennard can be available for questions and observe students doing their own work.
Homework will in the form of a unit project, and will be graded as a test grade. This weekend, the assignment is to prepare 3 questions which might be used in the unit portfolio.
The 3 questions follow the 3 layers of tasks: The A Layer is the highest ordered thinking skill - it is synthesis and evaluation. A problem could be similar to the IB'long' exam question, which ask several question, and use several math processes. The B Layer is the middle layer; it include the analysis and the more thorough comprehension tasks. Some examples of tasks in this area: Error analysis of quizzes; explanations and examples of all unit objectives, and may include section level textbook assignment, or a reflection of an assignment previously assigned. Level C is the most basic level, and includes tasks to promote basic knowledge and comprehension of the objective. These types of tasks may include a poster illustrating all vocabulary words, a test assignment, a poster comparing two related concepts, such as histograms and frequency charts.

Students are encouraged to include content from other classes, and to consider those areas they have had some difficulty understanding in the Statistics unit. For example a scatter plot illustrating migration patterns to or within the United States, statistics of Vietnam war inductees, say, enlistees vs draftees, and their rates of survival. There are numerous applications to consider in Biology and English, You could even pose a statistics question in Spanish, or French and require that the answer be in the same language. Please be creative!
