A Day

Periods 1 and 2 Honors Geometry grade 9
Objective: Students will solve review problems in Chapter 5 in order to prepare for the Quiz today on Ch 5-4 and 5-5, and the Chapter 5 test next class.
Following the warm up, students worked in small groups to complete inequality problems on p. 694, #17-30. Mrs. Dennard went over these exercises with the class before distributing Quiz 3-1 on Chap 5-4 and 5-5.
Following the Quiz, students worked in small groups to begin the Chapter Review,
pp. 281-283,#1-42.
Homework: Chapter test p. 284, #1-24
Next class - Chapter 5 TEST Be prepared!!!

All students - please have your ID on a lanyard in front of you, and be in full PHS uniform. Make sure any sweater you bring to school is a PHS uniform color. Please bring your binder, your math book, 2 pencils and looseleaf paper to each class. Too may students are storing papers in the textbook, which can damage the binding......If you break it - you will buy it!

Period 3 Math Studies IB Diploma Program grade 11
Objective: Students will solve extended(long) problems involving Geometry and Trigonometry in order to prepare for the IB Exams.
Following the warm up, students worked in small groups to complete Paper Two in Topic 5, Geometry and Trigonometry in the Oxford text pp.,pp 281-282.
Homework: Complete all end of Chapter problems in Topic 5 in Oxford test.
Error analyses on Quiz 3-1 Trigonometry are due on Monday, 3-1-10.
Do additional research to bolster your "Interpretation" section in your IA Paper.
All IA papers must be turned in to me for final grading
on or before Friday March 5, 2010.

Periods 1 and 2 Accelerated Algebra 1 grade 9
Onjective: Students will identify solutions of inequalities, graph, and write inequalities in order to solve real-world problems.
Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard answered questions about the homework, and students worked in small groups on inequalities problems. Students took a brief quiz on this topic at the end of the class.
Assignment: Text pp 136-137, #19-37,65-67,71.
Homework: Text pp 142-143,#3-39 multiples of 3.


Period 3 Math Studies IB Diploma Program grade 11
Objective: Students will practice exam questions in trigonometry and solid geometry in order to solve real world problems and prepare for the IB exams.
Following the warm up, Mrs Dennard answered questions about the homework, and conducted a peer evaluation of the Trigonometry quiz on Tuesday.
Assignment: Oxford text pp.279-280 #1-6 in Paper one.
Internal Assessment Review and Discussion with Mrs Dennard are ongoing. All papers are due to be turned in FINAL on or before March 6, 2010.

Periods 1 and 3 Honors Geometry Grade 9
Objective: Students will solve problem of inequalities involving angle of triangles in order to solve real world problems.
Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard taught Lesson 5-5 on Inequalities in Triangles, including: The Comparison Property of Inequality; The Corollary to the Triangle Exterior Angle Theorem; Triangle Side and Angle Theorems; Triangle inequality Theorem, and Finding possible side lengths for a triangle.
Classwork: Text pp 276-277,#1-27 odd.
Homework: Worksheet 5-5 on the back of the warm up sheet for this week
Next class: Quiz on 5-4 and 5-5. Best score of this and last quiz will be taken.
Chapter 5 TEST scheduled for Tuesday, March 2, 2010.


Period 3 Math Studies IB Diploma Program grade 11
Objective: Students will solve problems of solid geometry in order to solve real-world problems. Following the warm up, Mrs. Dennard taught the difference between a prism and a pyramid.
The Internal Assessment Paper Posters were turned in today. (GREAT job !!!)

Assignment: Oxford Text pp. 277-279 Ex, 5.5 #1-8

Periods 1 and 2 Grade 9
Objective: Students will demonstrate skill in writing and solving systems of equations. Following the warm up, andf a brief question and answer session, students took the Unit 3 TEST.
Homework: Text p.136, #1-18.

Period 3 Mathematical Studies IB Diploma Program Grade 11
Objective:Students will demonstrate skills in solving problems using trionometry equations. Following the warm up. Mrs. Dennard put up an overhead showing all homework problems worked out. Students cross checked the overhead with their own work on last nite's assignment. A brief question and answer period was included here. Students took a quiz on Trigonometry (Quiz 3-1) after lunch.
Assignment: Poster project which illustrates your IA paper is due tomorow.

Period 1 and 3 Honors Geometry
Objective: Students will practice writing the negation, inverse and contrapositive of a conditional statement. Following the practice session, there was a brief quiz on Ch 5-4.
Classwork Text pp 266-267 # 1-21,and p.272,#1-33 odd
Homework: Text pp 268-269 #22-28,and 33-38.

Next Class: Ch 5-5 pp 271-275 and Chapter Review
brief quiz on 5-4 and 5-5.

Objective: Students will practice using the ambiguous case of the sine rule, and practice solving word problems using the area formula and the sine and cosine rules.
Following the warm up, students posted homework problems on the board. Mrs. Dennard conducted a review of the homework and took questions from students on the material.
Assignment: Text, pp 342-349 Ch 10H.2,# 1-2 and 10I.1,#1-6.

There is a quiz on Chapter 10 tomorrow.

B Day

Each class was only 40 minutes this week, so the Algebra 1 Unit 3 test was rescheduled for Tuesday 2/23/10.

Periods 1 and 2 Accelerated Algebra 1

Objective: Students will practice writing and solving systems of equations.
Classwork: Handout: review for the Unit 3 test; include graphing, substitution and elimination systems of equations, and word problems.
Homework: Complete the handout. There are a total of 34 problems, and this will be graded as a take home quiz for 35 points. Due on Tuesday 2/23.
Next week:
Tuesday - Unit 3 test.
Thursday Begin Unit 4 Inequalities



Period 3 Math Studies IB Diploma Program
Objective: Students will practice using the Sine and Cosine Rules of Trigonometry in order to solve real-world problems. Following the warm-up, students took notes of the characteristics of each rule, and completed Ch 10G # 1-4 on p. 340, and 10H.1 #1&2 on p.341. (H&H Text)
Homework: Review set A #1-14 pp 349-351.

Next week: Final Drafts are due for my review and discussion with you. Please remember to sign up for a discussion time.
Monday: Ambiguous case; Using the sine and cosine rules; and, True Bearings.
Tuesday: Quiz on Chapter 10
Posters illustrating your IA paper are due.

A Day

Please be in uniform and have your ID displayed in front of you. Make sure you bring your textbook, binder, and 2 sharpened pencils to each class.

All overcoats must be hung in your locker - our classroom is HEATED now. (Yay!!!)
If you like to wear a sweater - please have one in a uniform color only!!!



Periods 1 and 2 Honors Geometry
We met for only 40 minutes this week.
Objective: Students will write the negation, the inverse, and the contrapositive of a conditional statement.
Following the warm-up, students worked on the vocabulary (on the back of the warm up sheet) for Ch 5-4. This was turned in at the end of the class.
All papers turned in before the blizzards were returned.
Progress reports - a list of all assignments to date - was distributed to students.

Homework: If not already completed - do all Check for Understanding question in Ch 5-4. pp 264-266.

Next week:
Next class is Monday 2/22; Students will practice problems in 5-4 and take a brief quiz - on 5-1 through 5-4.
Wednesday 2/24 will be on Ch 5-4 and chapter review
Friday 2/26/ is the Chapter 5 Test.

Welcome back after the big blizzard!!

Today my classes were visited by two teachers from Great Britain. They observed the class activities,and spoke to a few students as they were working.

Periods 1 and 2 Accelerated Algebra 1

Objective:Students will practice writing and solving systems of equations to prepare for the Unit 3 Test on Friday 2/19/10.
Classwork: Text pp.390,#1-29
Homework: On the back of this week's warm up - do your work on a separate sheet of loose leaf paper.

Period 3 Mathematical Studies IB Diploma Program
Objective: Students will solve trigonometry problems regarding the angle between a line and a plane, and calculate the area of a triangle using trig equations.
Classwork: H&H Text, pp.332-339, Chapter 10 Ex. E1,E2,E3.
Homework: Complete classwork if not yet turned in and on p339 #2-5/.

Please be prepared for peer reviews of the IA paper for the first hour tomorrow.
After lunch we will complete 10 G, H and I in H&H.

Quiz on Chapter 10 on Friday.

B Day - Tuesday

Please be in uniform colors every day - bring your textbook, your looseleaf binder (with looseleaf paper) and 2 sharpened pencils to each class. Also you must wear your PHS ID on a lanyard around your neck - it must be evident in front of you!

Periods 1 and 2 Honors Geometry
Objective: Students will identify properties of perpendicular bisectors and angle bisectors; and identify properties of medians and altitudes of triangles.
Classwork Text pp 256-263 #1-16.
Homework: Worsheet 5.3 on the back of the warm up sheet.
QUIZ next class 5-1 through 5-3.
Error analyses due on Quiz 3-1 on C=hapter 5-1..
Remember you must 1) explain your error, 2) solve it cporrectly and 3) explain in serntences the procedure used to get the correct solution. All step must be included are no credit is awarded. EA credit is 50% of points taken off. The EA MUST be in 2 days after I return the quiz to you.


Period 3 Math Studies
Objective: Students will use the IB grading criteria for peer reviews of the current IA paper drafts.
Assignment: H&H pp. 329 - 331, # 1-17 odd.
Next IA Peer review: Friday, 2/5/10. Please have two copies of your latest draft non Friday. Please put Friday's date on the cover page. Anyone turning in 2 copies of an UPDATED draft on Thursday is eligible for 3 bonus points. This draft should be very close to complete, with all math processes complete. You must include all data used in your calculations so your work can be replicated. If your math cannot be checked or you fail to produce 2 NEW drafts, you will not receive the 10 points for Friday's review.

2 hour delay today!

Period 1 and 2 Algebra 1
Objective: Students will solve systems of equations using matrices, and begin review of Unit 3.
Classwork: Text p. 360-361, pratice solving systems of equations. Review pack for Unit 3 was distributed. It is worth 50 points, and due on Wednesday, 2/3/10.
Homework: Complete Unit 3 Review ack, and complete the worksheet on the back of the warm up.


Period 3 Math Studies
Objective: Students will solve trig problems using sine, cosine, and tangent.
Assignment: Ex. 5.4 in Oxford Text.
IA Assigment: 2 copies of mosr recent draft for peer review on Tuesday.
