Tuesday 8/30/10 B Day

Period 1 and 4
Geometry: Objective: Students will review inductive reasoning, and finding patterns. Book covers made by Mrs. Dennard were given a personal touch by students. They were taken to the media center for laminating this afternoon.
Classwork period 1: Text pp.6-9, #8,13,19-22,29,44,45,47,50,54,56-59.

Next class 1.2 on Points Planes and Lines.

Period 3 Math Studies IB
Objective: 6.3 Students will solve problems of grouped discrete data and continuous data in order to develop a frequency table. Homework was collected (finding data sources on the web) Students completed the warm up - a review of line of best fit and slope. Students put a personal touch on book covers for the two IB books.
Any student who had not completed the Class work on Exercise 5B was instructed to do it for homework tonite.
Next class: 5C and D in H&H.

Monday - B Day - 8/30/20

Periods 1 and 2 Geometry grade 9
Objective: Students will demonstrate skill in using inductive reasoning to identify a pattern, make a conjecture, and find counterexamples in order to score high on the quiz. Mrs. Dennard collected the warmup and homework from last week, reminding students that they are to look on the blog to get assignments! Following the warm up, students worked in pairs on a practice assignment before taking a brief quiz on lesson 1.1. The 2nd period class was about 20 minutes shorter today, so their quiz will be at the beginning of the next class.
Classwork:Text pp 6-9, #8,13,19-22,29,44,45,47,50,54,56-59.
Homework : Handout: "Know What Formula To Use" a review of algebra topics.

Remember to get 9 hours of sleep to perform your best in class.Nightowls are often grade repeaters!

Period 3 Math Studies, IB Grade 11
Objective: Students will classify data as discrete or continuous, and solve problems to organise and display data and its distribution. Following the warm up, textbooks were distributed to all and students were directed through a tour of the book before focusing on Chapter 5 on Data Analysis.
Classwork: pp 109-117, 5A #1-2, 5B#1-6.
Homework:H&H text pp 112 Investigation 1 Statistics from the internet.

A Day Schedule Friday, 8/27/10

Periods 1 and 4, Geomeetry
Objective: Students will demonstrate skill in using and identifying inductive reasoning, making conjectures, and finding possible counterexamples in order to score well on today's quiz. Following the warm up, students worked in small groups on the homework questions, and several students volunteered to put the solutions on the board. Seven students demonstrated the handshake problem and Mrs.Dennard answered a few questions on the homework. The first quiz of the year was distributed. Students turned in all woarm ups and homework for this week.

There is no homework assigned this weekend.

Remember- getting 9 hours of sleep on a school night is correlated with high performance in school.

Students are encouraged to get a TI 83-84+ graphing calculator for home use.

Lockers and textbooks will be distributed next week.

Period 3 IB Math Studies
Objective: Students will demonstrate skill on the Presumed Knowledge skills in the first quiz of the year. Following the warm up, students reviewed the homework in small groups, and several students volunteered to put the correct solutions on the board. All warm ups and homework assignments for this week were turned in. When all questions were satisfied, Mrs.Dennard distributed the quiz. Students finishing the quiz early were invited to begin reading on p.109 in the Haese&Harris text. This is what will will start on next week.
There is no homework this weekend.

Thursday, 8/26/10
B Day

Periods 1 and 2 Geometry
Objective: Students will learn to use inductive reasoning to make conjectures and counter examples in order to evauluate the type of reasoning used in a newspaper article. Two students volunteered to complete the warm up on the overhead. Mrs. Dennard explained the vocabulary and concepts, and students worked in small groups to find examples of inductive reasoning, conjectures, and countermeasures. Students were assigned to complet the 4 "Check for Understanding" questions with each example on pp4-7 in the text. Homework is to complete the Practice sheet 1.1 on the back of the warm up.

Next class: There will be a brief homework quiz. We will complete a few wored problemes in Ch 1.1 before moving on to 1.2 - Points Line and Planes.

***** All students are reminded to complete the online information on the link from the Aug 19 blog entry.

Remember - getting enough sleep is the single biggest contributor to cognition.

Period 3 - IB Math Studies

Objective: Students will solve systems of equations, distance formula problems, and midpoint calculationa in order to complete the presumed knowledge unit. Several students volunteered to complete the warm up questions on the white board. Mrs. Dennard distributed a 2 sided handout on solving systems of equations, plotting the point on a coordinate plane, and calculating the distance and midpoint for each line sketched. Students worked in small groups to complete this assignment. The flip side includes a set of systemes of equations to solve in a puzzle.
Homework: Handout on Sine-Cosign and Tangent problems. If you did not complete the second page of the classwork, you must complete it for homework.

Quiz tomorrow on alll work done this week. Next week - Book distribution, cover patterns, and STATISTICS.

August 25, 2010

Wednesday 8/25/10 A Day

Geometry/Honors Geometry Periods 1A and 4A
Objective: Students will use inductive reasoning to make conjectures in order to identify the type of reasoning used in a newspaper article.
Assignment: Text pp 4-9, Check for Understanding Questions #1 - 4. Practice 1-1 on the back of the warm up sheet. Students worked together in small groups, and wrote several observations, conjectures and counterexamples.
Homework: Complete Practice 1.1 Patterns and Inductive Reasoning.
Quiz is the next class.

Make sure you have followed the link from Aug. 19 entry. I will get a prinout of all students who have entered their information on Monday.

WORK HARD - GET SMART!

Math Studies Period 3
Objective: Students will complete the presuned knowledge habdout in order to calculate perimeter and area, and trigonometry ratios. Students compared their work within working groups. Mrs.Dennard answered questions regarding tangent ratios.
Quiz on Friday.

Homework:
#1 Sketch right triangle EFD such that FE=6, and FD=8. The measure of DE (the hypotenuse)is unknown. Find the following:
a) sin D
b) cos D
c) tan D
d) sin E
e) cos E
f) tan E

#2 Find each of the following correct to 4 decimal places:
a) sin(37) b) cos(85) c) tan(7)
d) sin(42.7) e) cos(60) f) tan(45)
